Healthy San Franciscans Find a Home at San Francisco General Hospital PDF Print E-mail

Federico Lauchengco represents the best of what Healthy San Francisco (HSF), the City’s universal health care program, hopes to achieve.  Last year the 54 year old enrolled in the program, and began receiving regular checkups at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH).  Lauchengco’s cholesterol level and blood pressure were tested for the first time since he immigrated to the United States five years ago. His sister, Elvira Lazaro, who accompanied Lauchengco to the hospital, said HSF represented security against the unpredictability of illness.  “There’s a place to go if he is sick,” Lazaro said.  “It makes him feel secure that if anything ever happened he has a place to go.”

Cable May Shutter Potrero Power Plant PDF Print E-mail

The Trans Bay Cable (TBC) – a 53-mile transmission line that will connect San Francisco to Pittsburgh – is in its 17th month of construction at the Pittsburgh Converter Substation on the northern fringe of the City of Pittsburgh. It’s expected to plug into a substation at the intersection of Illinois and 23rd streets roughly a year from now.  According to San Francisco Public Utility Commission (SFPUC) officials, the cable will provide a reliable way to transmit clean energy to San Francisco.  The cable is “a giant extension cord,” said Karen Kubick, SFPUC manager of infrastructure development.

Progress Made Towards San Francisco General Hospital Rebuild PDF Print E-mail

Groundbreaking for San Francisco General Hospital’s (SFGH) new acute care center, earthquake retrofits, and energy back-up system could begin as soon as this May.  Preparatory measures for the hospital’s rebuild are already well underway.  The current plans exclude a previously proposed helipad, as well as the removal of trees along the hospital’s Potrero Street entrance.  The hospital’s redevelopment project will be paid for by a bond measure passed last November.

Eastern Neighborhoods Transportation Planning Process Continues PDF Print E-mail

A couple dozen Mission District, Mission Bay, Potrero Hill, and South of Market (SoMa) – collectively known as the Eastern Neighborhoods – residents gathered earlier this year to learn about an effort to engage community members in transportation planning in the area.  The outreach effort will eventually morph into a $1.25 million Eastern Neighborhoods Transportation Implementation Planning Study, or EN TRIPS.
